CBG Benefits: Inflammation, Muscle & Joint Pain

CBG benefits

The cannabis plant has hundreds of cannabinoids. THC and CBD are the most popular ones, the major focus of research is on these two cannabinoids. However, lost in the CBD & THC hype are many other valuable cannabinoids that have numerous health benefits to offer. One such cannabinoid that has started to make it to the headlines in the recent few years is cannabigerol or CBG. This is a precursor cannabinoid by nature. When it breaks down from its CBG-A form, it breaks down into CBD, CBG, THC, and CBC. This breakdown occurs when the CBG-A is heated. Today we are going to look into the CBG benefits.

The CBD vs. CBG Comparison

Because CBD has become a bit of a star in the world of cannabinoids, it has become customary to compare every rising cannabinoid with it. CBG is not exempt from this comparison either. First up are similarities, both CBD and CBG are non-intoxicating by nature. That’s exactly the opposite of THC.

Another similarity between the two cannabinoids is that they both have anti-inflammatory properties. As for the differences between the two cannabinoids, well we are still waiting for more research to be sure about them. However, one can make up their mind after reading the potential health benefits of CBG, a topic that we discuss in the next section of this discussion.

How is CBG Potentially Promising For Your Health?

For the sake of convenience, we are going to discuss the possible health benefits of CBG one by one in the following lines of this discussion. Here are the health conditions in which CBG can make a difference:

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

A mice study conducted in 2013 tells us that CBG has the potential to reduce the characteristic inflammation in IBD. The anti-inflammatory properties of IBD are a hallmark feature of this cannabinoid.

Bladder Problems

We know from a 2015 study that CBG is one of the most effective cannabinoids in treating bladder dysfunction. Of course, other cannabinoids like CBD were also put under the microscope, but it was CBG that came out as a winner.

Huntington’s disease

Studies tell us that the neuro-protective properties of CBG can be useful in battling conditions like Huntington’s disease. Huntington’s disease. It is a progressive brain disorder that leads to changes in the central area of the brain. This impairs movement, mood, and thinking skills. CBG’s potential in alleviating some of the symptoms of Huntington’s disease has already been established in rats. However, more research is needed on human subjects.

A 2014 rat study concluded that the CBG cannabinoid was particularly helpful in suppressing the growth of tumorous cells in the case of colon cancer in rats.

According to a 2018 study, CBG can be considered an effective option in treating glaucoma since it can reduce intraocular pressure, which is the primary reason for this eye condition.

CBG as an Analgesic & Muscle Relaxant

We don’t mean to undermine the potential health benefits of CBG that we have discussed in the previous section, but we still haven’t shared the most intriguing health benefit that CBG has to offer. That is its analgesic and muscle relaxant role! Research has shown that CBG can regulate the release of GABA i.e. gamma-aminobutyric acid. GABA is a neurotransmitter by nature, it can produce a soothing effect in painful conditions and disorders. Apart from that, GABA can produce a pacifying effect during insomnia and anxious moments.

What is even more interesting is the fact that CBG has a better regulatory hold than certain other cannabinoids, for example, CBD or THC. These findings give researchers hope that CBG may offer significant help for people who suffer from muscle spasms. Hence, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to any one of us, if in the future, CBG becomes a preferred analgesic and muscle relaxant choice for folks who believe in the power of cannabinoids!

Is CBG Safe?

Studies conducted on rats suggest that CBG is well tolerated by the bodies of rodents. But can the same be said about the human body? Again, we will have to wait a bit longer for answers. The absence of data that explains the negative effects of CBG on the human body doesn’t allow us to assume that all is well.

Final Thoughts

CBG is a star that has just started to shine brightly on the galaxy of cannabinoids. It has to undergo a lot of research before we can be confident about its health benefits. Since CBG is not FDA regulated yet, you will have to devise a screening mechanism of your own to buy a CBG product. Some contents of this criterion include opting for a full-spectrum CBD product, ensuring third-party testing, and avoiding products that come with additional but useless ingredients. Well, with these words of advice, we bid you farewell from this space.
